Getting Started

A benefits eligible employee is a full-time regular employee scheduled to work 35 hours per week or more, or a part-time regular employee scheduled to work 20 hours per week or more, in an eligible position.

Health and Welfare

The University of Chicago offers you a wide range of health and welfare benefits to help meet the needs of you and your family. In this section, you will find an overview of benefits such as medical, dental, vision and various insurance plans to help you understand the benefit and get you started.

You must enroll in health and welfare benefits within 31 days of your date of hire or your date of benefits eligibility.

If you elect coverage for your spouse, civil union partner, same-sex domestic partner (registered with the University) or other eligible dependents under one of the plans offered by the University of Chicago; you must scan and  upload documentation at the end of the benefit election process in Workday.

  • Certificate of Civil Union
Same Sex Domestic Partner (registered with the University by December 31, 2016)
  • Statement of Domestic Partnership

  • Other appropriate legal documents
  • For military veteran dependents, the "Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty" document is also required.

Tuition Assistance

The University of Chicago Educational Assistance Plan gives you and your dependent children several educational assistance options, depending on your position and, in some instances, your years of consecutive employment in an eligible position at the University.
