Family Medical Leave of Absence (FMLA)
Faculty and staff employees who have worked for the University for at least 12 months and 1,250 hours may be eligible for up to 12 weeks of leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). FMLA leaves may be taken for the following reasons:
- To care for the employee's child after birth or placement for adoption or foster care;
- To care for the employee's spouse, University-registered domestic partner, son, daughter, or parent with a serious health condition;
- To take medical leave when the employee is unable to work because of a serious health condition; or
- To take leave for qualifying exigencies arising out of the employee's spouse, son, daughter, or parent being on active duty or called to active duty status as a member of the National Guard or Reserves in support of a contingency operation.
